Well thank you all for electing me as your new President. I have very large shoes to fill indeed, Sally Anderson’s and Lanette Gavran’s. My first goal is to continue with, and duplicate, the amazing work they both have instilled into this organisation to date. I have the PAA torch to carry for the coming 3 years, so to speak.
My background stands as a Physiotherapy graduate in 1992. Coming from a classical dance background, I struggled with treating a client as a single joint and needed to look at a more holistic movement approach. I embarked on my Pilates journey initially with Dance Medicine Australia in 1996. I was lucky enough to begin with Polestar Pilates Education when it came to Australian shores in 1999 and have the privilege of being a Senior Educator and Examiner for Polestar Pilates Australia. I value my work as an educator as I feel you learn so much from your students. In 2006, I embarked on further training with Pilates ITC to ensure that I explored different methods of delivery.
I have an Allied Health Clinic/Pilates Studio in Adelaide. My special interests are Dance Physiotherapy, Women’s Health and Chronic Pain. I continue with a strong clinical load to ensure I maintain a hold on manual and Pilates skills. We also act as the host site for Polestar Pilates in South Australia.
I initially joined the PAA committee in 2009 with the goal to develop cohesiveness between the Allied Health and Pilates worlds. Along with this, I am focused on creating a regulated standard of education and practice within the Pilates Industry here in Australia. As I move forward in my new role, I aim to stand as the voice of the committee which represents you the members of our Industry Body, the Pilates Alliance Australasia. So please feel free to chat to me with any of your ideas, thoughts or concerns on jen.guest@smarthealthtraining.com.au
