Jen Guest PAA President
There are less than 4 weeks left until our PAA Conference 2017. This amazing event is now sold out, the conference booklets have been printed, goodie bags and stock are rolling in, equipment into storage ready for the event and then on-selling at a fabulous discount.
Our second and third surveys have been released and thank you to all who completed them. Raphael Bender has collated the data and will present the outcomes in this newsletter. We ran the live raffle draw of survey entrants at our recent general committee meeting on 4 August 2017 with 715 entries. Congratulations to Stephanie Rand who is the recipient of the Conference ticket.
Welcome to all of our new members and congratulations to all of you who have upgraded in the past quarter.
Within this newsletter, we have an interview with Director of Dance Medicine Australia Clinical Pilates, Craig Phillips, who will look at the question of defining Clinical Pilates. It’s a question I am often asked and I feel it will provoke great discussion within our community. I encourage you to email me at jen@pilates.org.au with your thoughts and views.
The Education Forum held on 27 July focused on course competency criteria, online education learning methods, student work placement site criteria, affiliation in marketing through fitness expos and scope of practice. The meeting was well attended with many great brainstorming ideas. I took some valuable thoughts from the meeting and will be endeavouring to increase marketing of the PAA to the community, skilled services and ASQA. You will also see an increase in the promotion of the PAA, its role and its vision across all methods of advertising. This strong increase of promotion will assist in lining the pathway to the highest form of professional regulation.
Secretary, Mary McArthur, and System’s Officer, Kerry Haywood, are developing an official PAA pitch document to present to health funds. We feel that the pitch would be best performed face to face and thus, we will be looking for specific committee members who feel comfortable to pitch to their state health funds. Coaching and guidance will be given to assist this process.
Whilst looking at the PAA website, I invite you to browse the new FAQ plug-in being developed by Kerry. There are already several questions and answers available and many, many more in the pipeline to be written. You can also submit your own questions if you can’t find what you’re looking for.
You would have received an email introducing you to the Accreditation logos which can be download and utilised on your stationary. There are logos for both mat and studio designed by Branding Officer Kristy Smith.
The PAA Constitution has been reviewed under the new Associations Incorporation Regulation 2016. PAA Secretary, Mary McArthur, collated several amendments that had been identified by our members. The changes have been distributed to members to vote upon and the resulting changes will soon be incorporated into the Constitution and lodged with the Department of Fair Trading NSW as true and correct.
I am now entering my final concurrent year with the PAA and my 5th year as President. My focus, over the past two years, has been to create a streamlined, efficient business model with policies and procedures that are transparent and allow seamless transfer for entering committee members. This foundation is imperative to facilitate PAA membership growth and to increase the conversion of student membership to full membership. Looking beyond 2020, a fresh Strategic Plan will be instigated in 2021 and I look forward to hearing of the PAA’s ongoing direction, purpose and planning.
Happy Conference month everyone. I will say a personal hello to you at the International Convention Centre Darling Harbour.
