Well we must say that this was the largest conference the PAA have hosted to date and from your feedback, the best. This is simply due to the striving efforts of the committee and the commitment of our members. Much fun was had and we all left feeling united and informed.
Our four presenters from the US, Blossom Leilani Crawford, Brett Howard, Mejo Wiggin and Brent Anderson worked tirelessly throughout the event presenting lectures and workshops, offering private and duet sessions, answering many additional questions and posing for photographs. We were captivated by the flow of Mejos’ choreography, laughed at Blossom’s joyful imagery cues, gasped at Brett’s flawless skill and gained great knowledge from Brent’s research review and clinical expertise. It was truly wonderful to have presenters and delegates from various methods of Pilates and teaching organisations join and share their knowledge and skill openly, demonstrating the true meaning of Joseph’s philosophy of providing for all.
Once again, Australian Technology Park provided an amazing backdrop to our conference including the superb catering and service staff who remained on hand for the entire event, keeping us nourished, hydrated and tidy! We were even accompanied by the girls from “What Not to Wear”, Timomatic, filming his latest video and on the final day, a fleet of high performance street cars. Clearly the PAA conference was the place to be over the weekend.
An impressive 122 members attended the AGM, allowing the committee to detail first hand its’ activity and financials and to elect new members to the committee. We welcome Liz Chamas and Marcia Teperman Shapira to the committee as ordinary councillors, Olga Tamara was re elected as Vice President, Mary McArthur into the Secretary role and myself, Jen Guest as your new President. We bid farewell to two loved committee members, Lanette Gavran and Suzanne Newby, both offered true commitment, passion and dedication throughout their respective terms.
Finally, I would like to thank all of the committee for their commitment over the past two years in preparing for this three day event and the long physical days put in over the past week. I would like to make a special note of the extraordinary work of our Vice President, Olga Tamara, whom with her style, grace and outstanding event management skill captained this successful weekend. It amazes me that she is able to coordinate every finest detail yet cannot seem to remember where she put her keys! And last but not least, I must thank our student volunteers who scampered around the event performing many of the routine tasks and taking directions from us all. Job well done all.
I write this, Sunday evening after the conference as many of you slump into your beds, some are still on their journey home, Mejo awaits her departure at Mascot and Blossom finishes her swim at Bondi. Thank you everyone and I very much look forward to PAA Conference 2015.
