I am so excited about the release of the new book, Love all Around: Romana Kryzanowska a biography of my Pilates teacher, Romana Kryzanowska. I believe this book will give others a chance to know a little of the magic of Romana, her life and her work.
I met Romana in a tiny studio in Leichhardt, Sydney, in 1996. She made me sweat and she made me laugh! She was a little lady with a big energy, and when I watched her work with people, I wanted to be like her! I wanted her eagle vision, her compassion, her wit, and her no excuses optimism.
I was lucky enough to spend time training with her in both Australia and New York and to this day, she continues to inspire me! I remember how hard she worked and how humble and generous she was. Humble, yet self-assured, because she trusted what Joe and Clara had taught her, and she trusted her innate knowing.
Through Pilates, she taught me how to live and love more joyfully! When she passed in 2013, I wrote the tribute below. I hope it inspires you to get to know her life story, through Cathy Strack’s beautiful biography.

Some lessons I learned from the wonderful Romana.
Live in joy and celebrate at every opportunity, be strong- like bull, don’t breath like a steam train, move with grace and ease (even when no-one is watching), drink champagne – preferably every Friday around 11am (just because you can!), don’t grunt or pull faces- it takes you out of your powerhouse, bend in the breeze – like a willow, stand tall – walk taller, don’t just eat the raisins from the cereal, flirt a little – love a lot, dance at every opportunity (goes along with the joy and the champagne!), expect that your body will do as you ask it to and don’t talk about your (or others) limitations – they are irrelevant to movement, be poetry in motion….. VIVA ROMANA!
