From the Committee
The committee met last Friday, 28 June. The agenda included the regular subcommittee reports and updates on current projects, a conference update with coordination of logistics for the event and investigating options to support business owner members. The budget for financial year 2019-20 was presented to committee and projects for the coming year discussed.
The annual Education and Industry Forum has been rescheduled to 23 August to allow greater participation. Key personnel from all PAA Education Bodies have been invited and representatives from Authentic Pilates, Polestar, Pilates ITC, PFI and Tensegrity have confirmed their attendance. Discussions will include changes in the training landscape and industry needs, professional development and advocacy.
Conference Update
With just over 2 months to go, we were heavily focused on coordination of the logistics for the conference at this meeting. All three equipment sponsors have great deals on equipment used at the conference and there are still pieces available so don’t miss out. International presenter visas have been finalised and we are now working on the finer details of their schedule.
The variety of workshop options and ability to build your ideal conference schedule has been embraced by delegates and there are strong bookings across all workshops- practical, theoretical and business. Come and join your fellow teachers and be energised and inspired.
If you cannot get away for the full 3 days of the conference, one day tickets will be released in the coming month so look out for the announcement. There are lots of great workshops and amazing presenters to learn from. Don’t miss out!
We recommend anyone wishing to attend all three days buy their ticket before the one day tickets go on sale, as workshop choices across the weekend could diminish rapidly.
Social media is featuring even more strongly in the conference run up this year, with the communications subcommittee working hard to get the word out to the wider Pilates community. Please take a moment to like and share all the conference posts you see and don’t forget to add the conference hashtags: #paaconference #builtforyou #sitwithus
Conference volunteers needed
We already have several volunteers signed up; however, we do need additional volunteers to help run this large event. If you are a student enrolled in a PAA recognised Pilates course and would like to experience the conference as a volunteer please contact me ASAP: sharan@pilates.org.au
Volunteers are required Thurs 12 Sept – Sun 15 Sept. You will be helping bump in and set up the equipment and rooms on Thursday and then, during the conference, you will register delegates into workshops and assist with other tasks. This will give you an opportunity to sit in on some workshops and classes.
Changes to Student membership
The PAA committee are keen to introduce free membership for students of recognised training courses while they complete their Pilates training/studies.
With free membership, students will no longer be classed as financial members and therefore will not have voting rights. This is consistent with other professional membership associations.
Do you support free membership for students?
We’ll be sending out a survey next week to poll members on their opinions of the proposed change. Watch your inbox for the link.
