Book Review: Profitable Pilates – Everything but the Exercises by Lesley Logan

Profitable Pilates - Everything but the Exercises by Lesley Logan

Profitable Pilates is a book for those who have recently graduated and for aspiring Pilates instructors who are looking for advice on how to turn Pilates into a profitable career.

Lesley covers a little bit of the History of Pilates, different lineages and how to choose the right training program. She also discusses being financially prepared to participate in training and apprenticeship and the possibilities in the market place, such as working independently, sub-contracting, being an employee and the different environments that one may work at such working from home, at studios, gyms, doctor’s practices and home visits, exploring the pros and cons of each one of these environments.

Lesley expands on the topic of profit through making sure to price rates accordingly and how to set firm professional boundaries as well as consistently enforce the terms and conditions that support viable businesses.

Although some of the content of Profitable Pilates is more relevant to the American market and the less experienced business owner, she makes good points about good and affordable ways to market your services, how to present yourself and what you do when chatting to people everyday and other how to’s for the recently graduated instructor.

Lesley Logan has been teaching Pilates since 2008 and holds Masters certification through The Pilates Center in Boulder, CO.
