PAA Membership Categories

Associate, Group Instructor, Studio Instructor and Pilates Practitioner memberships are renewed annually, with reviews of PDPs required every two years for Group Instructor, Studio Instructor and Pilates Practitioner members.

It is PAA policy to encourage all members to work towards Pilates Practitioner membership of the association and to be fully qualified in both matwork and apparatus instruction in the Pilates Method.

Associate Membership

Associate Membership

For persons interested in Pilates and supporters of the Pilates industry.

Associate Membership — $132.50 incl. GST

Is open to any person with an interest in, or appreciation of, the Pilates Method and its application.

  • allied health practitioners, fitness leaders and other persons who have undertaken Pilates based training relevant to their primary profession, but who have not completed recognised or comprehensive training according to PAA membership requirements.
  • clients and the general public.

Associate members are not recognised as teachers of the Pilates Method and may not use their standing as an Associate Member to infer qualification to teach.

Benefits

Associate members:

  • are entitled to one vote on any question arising at a PAA Annual General Meeting, and may appoint a proxy to vote on their behalf if not in attendance.
  • receive regular bi-monthly newsletters and discounts to PAA aligned organisations.
  • are not required to undertake professional development to maintain associate membership.

For students of PAA recognised Pilates training courses

Student Membership — Free

Membership is available to students who have registered in a PAA approved program of instructional training in the Pilates Method.

  • student Membership is for 12 months and is free of charge*.
  • for a Student membership application to be successful, evidence of PAA approved training program registration must be uploaded.

Student members are not recognised as teachers of the Pilates Method and may not use their standing as an student member to infer qualification to teach.

Group Instructor membership

Group Instructor membership

For matwork/reformer trained teachers of the Pilates Method.

Group Instructor membership — $222.00 incl. GST

Open to persons who have successfully completed and provide evidence of either:

  • Certificate IV in Contemporary Pilates and Teaching Methodology (52855WA)
  • A Statement of Attainment for completion of specific units from the following Diplomas:
    • Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction (10838 NAT)
    • Diploma of Polestar Pilates Comprehensive Instruction Method (10828 NAT)
  • Full matwork and/or reformer training from a PAA recognised training organisation or equivalent.

Requirements

Group Instructor members are required to:

  • provide evidence of Pilates certification from a PAA recognised training organisation.
  • provide evidence of public liability and professional indemnity insurance ($2,000,000 min. per claim).
  • provide evidence of a current ‘Provide First Aid’ certificate.
  • provide evidence of 15 PDPs accrued over a 2-year period in accordance with PAA guidelines. A minimum of 5 PDPs per year will be required for membership renewal.

Group Instructor members may only promote teaching programs within the scope of their Pilates qualification.

Studio Instructor membership

For comprehensively trained teachers of the Pilates Method.

Studio Instructor membership — $417.00 incl. GST

Studio Instructor membership is open to comprehensively trained instructors from courses that meet PAA criteria. Individual instructors can apply and have their training assessed against the PAA criteria.

APMA graduates and/or past members are eligible for PAA membership. Please contact us to discuss.

Pilates Practitioner membership

For Diploma qualified teachers of the Pilates Method.

Pilates Practitioner membership — $417.00 incl. GST

Open to persons who have successfully completed and provide evidence of a Diploma in Professional Pilates Instruction or equivalent from a PAA recognised training organisation.

APMA graduates and/or past members are eligible for PAA membership. Please contact us to discuss.

Applicants with international Pilates qualifications or qualifications prior to 2013 will be assessed individually.

Pilates Practitioner membership levels

  • Level 1: Graduate of approved certification program
  • Level 2: Certification plus minimum 3000 hours experience or Advanced Diploma in Pilates
  • Level 3: Certification plus minimum 5000 hours experience
  • Level 4: Certification plus minimum 7000 hours experience
  • Trainer Level 1: Level 3 plus Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment
  • Trainer Level 2: Level 4 plus Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment
  • Principal: Certification plus minimum 10000 hours experience
  • Principal Trainer: Principal plus Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment
