President’s Report – January 2014

Welcome everyone to a bright new year. The PAA committee very much hopes that you are well on the way to achieving your goals and resolutions for 2014. We see this year as being the Year of the Member. With our new website and the automated member on-line systems developed last year, our plan is to focus on PAA individual members at every level, as well as studio members.  We see you, our members, as the heart beat of the PAA.

2014 is a non-PAA conference year, though we are already well underway with the planning and organisation of the 2015 event. In the meantime, we will be organising and promoting some small state-by-state Pilates events, involving communities and charities. Our aim is to unite members within local social environments and to improve networking with a strong community feel.

Liz Chamas and Marcia Temperman Shapira will be using their expert knowledge to increase the PAA social media profile. We will be looking to involve and engage you, the members, by inviting you all to share your Pilates stories, experiences and also to ask questions. In this modern world of accessible online communication, we will be able to stay better connected on a daily basis, and thus further strengthen our Pilates community.

As a committee, we will be continuing the work of our predecessors, by working towards gaining recognition as a regulated therapeutic profession. The PAA is aligned with a national committee, the Natural Medicine Register (NMR) and as part of this register, we are working together with 11 other complimentary medicine organisations  to collaborate, communicate and meet with appropriate government bodies. In addition, the PAA is looking to support relevant research projects and working to quantify our skill through relative objective measurement tools. We all understand that Joseph’s work was well before its time. It is only now that modern medicine is seeing the marvelous benefits of Contrology and now it is our turn to pay our respects in quantifying the benefits of his work.

Our Annual General Meeting will be held on September 13th 2014 in Sydney with the venue to be advised later in the year.
